WORK IN PROCESS

A blog, I guess.

COZY Collaboration with Sarah Beth Morgan

December 7, 2018

Hi y’all! It’s been a while, still trying to figure out how to blog process more often. I tend to post on my Instagram stories and not on here.

The internet is a a wide world of so many things and through it all we meet people that stick out. I have been following Sarah Beth Morgan (Wonderfall) on Instagram for a short bit now and I LOVE her work. We connected recently and had a video chat to “meet” and connect. We both work from home which can be really isolating when working in our field. I want to be more intentional about meeting with people I connect with on the internet to check in and see how they are doing. We are able to talk about projects and help each other out with pricing and things that sometimes need more eyes and an extra opinion.

After messaging back and forth on gchat, we decided to do a short illustration collaboration. It’s getting cold in Texas and the word “cozy” came to mind. We decided on the 4x5 format and to both use the same yellow (#fcbc55) within our separate illustrations. Below is my process and both of our final illustrations.

I can’t wait to do another one of these!

In the beginning, I was going to have a full bear squished into frame. I was struggling with getting the composition the way I wanted to and saw a zoomed in version with just the teddy. I liked that composition a whole lot better and dove in that direction.

I’m learning that sketching multiple compositions is super important, something I need to improve on as I get more illustration work (as well as design work).

Sarah shared her process on her Instagram post. So inspiring!

Just keep drawing! Who inspires y’all?

It's hard convincing a client that a sketch can become even more than what it is at its most simple state. I'm hoping to have this blog be a place of process to show how a project can transform from sketch to final and beyond.
